Airport Lurkers

We spent the better portion of the day today haunting the halls of JFK airport. Due to the extremely cold winds billowing through the city streets (and the fact that we had no where to put the cat to keep her out of said winds), we went directly from our hotel checkout at noon to the airport. There was also the small matter of getting Gidget's FDA stamp from the only man in New York capable of giving it whose office just happens to close insanely early. Not that I'm bitter or anything. I mean, who wouldn't want to arrive at the airport 10 hours before their scheduled flight? You know you're at the airport early when the duty free shop won't be open for over 3 hours.

We managed to entertain ourselves fairly well, all things considered. And when I say all things, I am of course referring to our 500+ lbs. of luggage and the cat. I almost laughed at the clerk in one store who told me it would be no problem if I wanted to go get my wife and our bags and bring them all back to his store so that Melissa could check out their scarf selection. After explaining our current baggage situation to the clerk and discussing which airline we were flying the clerk replied, "You're flying LOT Air? Oh man, don't expect to see anyone at their check-in counter for at least 7 hours." He was almost right. People starting showing up at their check-in desk about 6 hours later.

Upon questioning, they politely informed me that they would not be processing any check-ins for another hour.

Hey guys! I totally feel your pain on the airport thing. Alicia and I are about to join your side of the Atlantic as we are flying to Kenya on the 19th. Thanks a lot for the tons of baggage reminder. ;) I love your posts...keep them up!
