Together at last...

...in Krakow. It's almost Palm Sunday and we had a great time looking at the Polish version of palms out in Krakow's market.
Last weekend was the first time Dave and I were able to go to Krakow together. We've each been on various occasions with relatives and work, but never together. So we took a short train ride to share the neat places we'd each discovered (I had seen more of the tourist spots, Dave knew more restaurants, so it worked out nicely). We stayed in an apartment owned by the office:We got comfy beds, a kitchen, and 500 channels of satellite TV (with only 2 English channels) for $35 a night. We thought it was a pretty good bargain. Plus, it was right in old town.

Our first stop was to visit the Dragon's lair beneath Wawel castle. I had no idea there actually was a Dragon lair underneath the castle, though I had already heard the dragon legend. Dave took the mandatory photo with Smok the dragon, because, according to Dave, "Dragons make everything awesome."Next, we located a special vodka/liquor shop that we had heard about from some friends. They flavor the vodka in the store in big containers with pour spouts attached. You select a special bottle after picking your flavor.
We got little bottles of chocolate cream, rose vodka, and coconut vodka. The next morning we discovered that Krakow has a distinct lack of places open for breakfast on Sunday morning before noon. Shortly before noon tons of places started opening up, which did us lots of good as we rode out of town on our 12:00 train. Fortunately, we did manage to find a hotel that served a very nice continental breakfast in time for us to have a moderate paced breakfast before heading back to the train station.

Poor Smok Wawelski, forced to stand beside a rock while American Tourists stand on top and can look down on him.

Oh wait.

I got the lookalikes confused. It IS Smok on top of the rock!
