The Governor's Ball

Try to ignore the lovely shoes in the foreground - here's a photo of me all dress up and ready to go to the Governor's Ball at Gatsby's tavern. If you want to ready more about my dress, you can check out the latest Post on costumediva.blogspot.com.I had a very nice time at the ball. I went stag but Dave was nice enough to drop me off and pick me up. One of these days maybe I'll convince him to tag along, but this ball was not that day. I wasn't able to bring my camera (no pocket), so unfortunately I have no photos from the ball.

In preparation for the ball I took a series of 18th century English country dance lessons, so I knew most of the dances at the ball. Some of them I danced well, while I managed to stumble my way through a few others. Here's a youtube clip from Pride and Prejudice showing one of the dances I actually learned and danced. I kid you not - the name of this dance is "Mr. Isaac's Maggot." There was surprisingly no lack of partners - I only sat out one dance, and otherwise I was on my feet having a great time. I met some very nice people who will be at the next ball (Washington's birthday ball), so I'll look forward to seeing some of the same crowd again in a few months. I also really enjoyed the dancing and learned that there is a group that get's together regularly in Alexandria to practice, so I may start going. It's certainly a good workout.

The dress is great, especially that fabric! Wow! The ball sounds like a good time. I'm impressed with your preparatory work for it.
