Dog Videos

We've been having more fun with Calypso these past few weeks, and Dave finally made a few great videos of her in action. The first is actually the first meeting between Calypso and Gidget - watch for Gidget taking a swipe at her newfound foe. She's pretty fast, so it's easy to miss.

Despite the fact that we still have not managed to fully housebreak her, Caly is proving to be a very intelligent dog (maybe she just doesn't want to be housebroken...). Here is a video of her and the tricks we've taught her. Since we made this video, we've also taught her to high-five and wave. She's still a bit confused on 'sit-pretty' (where she rolls back and sits on her butt with front paws up) and 'play-dead' (too similar to roll-over, probably). We're working on them, so she'll probably know a few more tricks before we're finished. She seems to respond to our hand commands more than to the actual voice commands, but she now sits on voice command so maybe that comes with practice. Here's our clever little puppy in action!

Caly's about ready to go off to school I think - puppy obedience school at Petsmart will be starting in a few weeks. She's pretty well behaved, but we want to put a stop to barking/jumping/nipping behavior that might be cute when she's a puppy since they won't be so funny when she's fully grown. We're not sure how cute they are now, though everyone that meets her seems to adore her.

We took her with us up to Dave's parent's house this weekend. We went swimming, and Calypso wanted in on the fun (thank goodness Dave's parents were amused if not encouraging this behavior). Sadly I don't have any pictures of her swimming. She pretty much fell into the pool on accident while she was exploring, and we figured since she was already soaked, why not let her swim a few times back and forth between us. She's a good little swimmer, and enjoyed herself despite the surprise she got when she initially fell in.

She is a smarty all right! Something tells me she might have you guys in the palm of her paw. :)
