Melissa's Krakow Pictures
I'm back from my week in Krakow, and I had a great time. Here are some pictures and explanations of my trip:
Wawel Castle and the old barbican
Renaissance Courtyard at Wawel - this place is amazing!! I can just picture the lords and ladies of the Renaissance walking around the courtyard and the hallyways.
Town Hall - inside is the famed fabric market
Fabric Market - you can't actually buy fabric there now, much to my dissapointment. However, you can buy amber, sheep skins, and other great souvenirs
St. Mary's Church
One tower belonged to the church, the other one to the town of Krakow. It served as a watch tower for incoming Tartar invasions. Can you guess which one is which? Every day on the hour during the summer, a trumpet player comes out at the tallest tower and commemorates the myth of a brave trumpet player that warned the town the Tartars were invading. While he managed to save the lives of the women and children of Krakow, giving them time to hid from the raping and piliging army, the Trumpet player was shot by a Tartar bowman right through the neck, cutting off the song/warning mid-stream. Today, the song still stops mid-note.
