What happens when....
You combine St. Andrews day, lots of aged malt scotch, and men in kilts? One ROCKING Caledonian Ball!!!
I had the best night partying I've had in a long time. While many readers will remember that we all got dressed up in our formal gear only three weeks ago, the Caledonian ball offered let-down-your-hair-fun versus the more formal atmosphere of the Marine ball. The evening started off with an open vodka bar, with cocktails in a variety of flavors and colors.
Next, the Scottish bag pipes led the procession into dinner.
It was a fabulous four course meal, served with wine, a different scotch at every course, and just in case you didn't have enough scotch, there was a bottle of aged whiskey (the bottle ran over $100 we later learned, but was included in the ticket). Before we all ate, there was an ode to haggis, and the "Scottish" Ambassador said a few words (I put Scottish in parenthesis, because the Ambassador is usually referred to as the Ambassador of the United kingdom). Oh: and Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth was only referred to as the Queen of Scots. :)
After the whiskey had been flowing, and we'd all eaten, the Scottish Dancing began. It was so much fun! They taught us the steps, and I got to go around the floor for a few dances. The guys in kilts were by far the rowdiest bunch on the dance floor.
We shut down the party, and were still having such a great time that we continued on to a club. We all got in about dawn, which I can't remember doing in years!! Don't worry Dave: I promise we'll do this again next year. You'll love it (if the scotch hasn't convinced you, the cigars I forgot to mention will).
