'Topes Win!!

Well, we didn't exactly win, but we came pretty close to winning!! This weekend was the annual Quiz Night fund raiser at the American School of Warsaw. We attended this last year and came in a modest 9th out of 15 teams. This year we organized another team made up mostly of entry-level employees. Our team name was the Albuquerque Isotopes (it's a Simpson's reference). Here's part of our team in round one:Quiz night was broken into 4 different rounds - in between rounds we had appetizers, dinner, and dessert. The first three rounds are written out on sheets of paper. If you're in the top ten, you participate in the final fourth round, complete with buzzers. In the final round you face off in rank order, and each team keeps going until they're eliminated. We started the lightning round in 7th place and went all the way to the final match for 1st and 2nd place. Our team was the only team that managed to displace another team.We went head-to-head with the team that had been in first place for all three previous rounds. Each of our teams correctly answered 2 questions, so the entire game boiled down to one question. Even though we buzzed in first, we had a brain lapse and couldn't remember why Mars appears to be red in the night sky. We all agree we knew the answer was the iron in the soil, but we just couldn't remember in time.
So we took home 2nd place! We all got bottles of Italian wine with Polish pottery corks. From 7th to 2nd place was pretty neat - the whole room was cheering us on. We also beat out several other teams where our bosses were playing (including the number two guy at work).

I'll say this about the team that took first: they were in first the whole night, and they are some of the smartest people I know. Congrats to the "Failed Bulimics" team on taking home first prize! (pictured below in red)
