A Room of One's Own

Yeah...so, Dave and I have bought a house.

More accurately, a Condo in Alexandria, Virginia (technically part of Fairfax county). It's about three blocks from the end of the Blue line on the Metro, which means I have a direct commute in to work. The neighborhood is really cute - it's called Manchester Lakes, and it's right next some great shops (Giant, Safeway, Wal-Mart, movie theaters, Bombay, Noodle company, etc).

We found it just in time - we'll close the week we leave for Belgium. We'll rent it out while we're away, but we plan on living in it whenever we come home for a Washington assignment. Dave and I have been looking hard for a house over the last month, and even made two unsuccessful bids for Condos prior to this one. The market is not nearly insane as it was two years ago, but it's still competitive.

It's a three bedroom condo with two full baths. We don't have a lot of nice photos yet.

The things we really like about this condo are the loft with fireplace, the high ceilings, the balcony with a lake view, and closets with custom built organizers. There are a few things I'm not crazy about - it's on the top level with lots of stairs to get there, the kitchen is small and out of date (that can be fixed), and the bathrooms need updating (also can be fixed). Not too shabby for our first place.

Wild! I never actually thought I'd find a blog that mentions my neighborhood (at least one that isn't real estate). So, anyway: Welcome to Manchester Lakes! Hope ya like it here!
