Bon Voyage/Goodbye Poland

The time has come for us to bid farewell to Poland. We will be boarding the plane bright and early tomorrow morning, and are thrilled to be going home for several months before moving to Brussels; Dave and I are both a bit homesick.

Gidget will be spending the summer being pampered and cared for at a fabulous cat luxury resort known as "Judy and Dave's Place." Despite these arrangements, our cat does not seem thrilled with the reappearance of our suitcases and seems to suspect something is up. She has made herself scarce this week, trying to find new ways to elude her forced departure.

Dave's parents have been visiting us in Poland for the last week and have given us the perfect excuse to make one last visit to all our favorite restaurants, shops, and historical sites. This included a wonderful stroll in Lazenki park to the Palace on the Lake:

The Wilanow palace:

And the mandatory liter beer picture:

Our last day in Poland, we went to the Warsaw Uprising museum and the Warsaw train museum (Dave's dad is a big fan of European trains, and has an impressive LGB model train collection). Dave really liked checking out the old-fashioned train boilers, and I enjoyed re-enacting a scene from Hansel and Grettel:

Finally, for our last night and meal in Warsaw, we went to a special wine-makers dinner. They Hyatt Hotel's chef serves a five course meal specially paired with the wines being presented at the dinner. We tasted five wines from the Bordeaux region in France, and an employee from a Bordeaux winery explained the various wines we were tasting. Here we had a lime/rasberry scallop salad with a white Bordeaux:

A great way to end our stay in Warsaw. We'll miss Poland, but we're ready to go home and enjoy life in the U.S. for a few months!
