Back to Stay (at least for now)

Hey all,

Time for a quick update on what we've been up to. I am slowly getting better and am no longer at the hospital, but it will be a while before I can really say I'm fully recovered. I'll need to see a doctor weekly for quite a while, so we will not be going back to Brussels. I have started a temporary assignment in DC this week, and leased an apartment in DC that's an easy commute to work. My mom helped me find it while she was visiting me a few weeks ago. Here she is in my new kitchen:
Our storage was delivered to the new apartment this week...I can't tell you what an odd thing it is to be reunited with items you haven't seen in over 3 years. Some things I was thrilled to see (yay tempurpedic bed!!), some I had forgotten about (random rugs, storage unit, and my lane trunk), and some things I wondered why on earth we had bothered to store (three random lamps that probably haven't been used in over six years and don't match anything). *shrug*

As 2000 lbs of furniture came rolling in (our full bed, my old twin bed and it's trundle, dinning room table and 6 chairs, bookcases, computer desk, sofa, etc) it turned into a game of tetris trying to fit everything in. I shudder to think of what we'll do when the rest of our 5000 lbs of stuff shows up. Thank goodness for relatives and storage units.

I'm slowly getting set up (internet this weekend...phone whenever Dave comes back to the US). Dave briefly came home to attend his sister's wedding (which was so fabulous it clearly merit's its own posting) and also dropped off Gidget, but he's now back in Brussels finishing his last few weeks at his old job and packing up our belongings. I'm hoping he'll be home in early March. We did have time for a date on Valentine's day, and we went out for seafood on the Georgetown Waterfront.
So far I'm really enjoying being (the price shock hasn't set in yet), and am looking forward to being in touch with friends and family. I'm also looking for fun activities or clubs to join. I'm trying out yoga this week, but I also want a social activity. I was thinking about SCA, or a dance class. I can't seem to find a historical sewing club anywhere. What do you all think?

-Melissa
