Just what my waistline needs

As readers of Melissa's costume blog are no doubt aware, Melissa has been taking a bit of a break from sewing. I'm confident that she'll resume her favorite hobby eventually, but she's not interested in getting invested in any large projects at the moment.

Instead, Melissa has decided to pursue a hobby in cake baking. Evidence of her first three attempts is below. The biggest problem with her new hobby? We've yet to finish a cake before it goes bad.

Clearly I need to step my game up a notch1.

My name is Dave and I approve of this hobby.

1Those who know me well will never believe this, but I've actually made the switch to Coke Zero. Admittedly, Melissa's new hobby has little to do with the switch; it had more to do with the fact that I was drinking about 500 calories each day. The cake thing is just a convenient excuse for my pansification.

And the girl ain't so bad either! She's definitely a keeper. Much better looking than the guy she married, but I suppose we'll have to keep him, too.

I have switched to Coke Zero also, but I was not at 500 calories a day! I prefer the cherry Coke Zero, no after taste.

Love, Dave-Dad

500 calories may be a bit of an exaggeration, but remember, a regular 12 fl oz can contains 155 calories, so I’m sure there were days that I topped the 500 calorie mark. In any event, my average daily consumption was at least 300 calories worth; enough that I won’t be surprised if I lose a little weight just by cutting the calories from the Coke out of my diet.

I've never been a big fan of Cherry Coke, let alone Cherry Coke zero. I wasn't aware there was such a thing. We consider ourselves lucky if the commissary has Coke Zero; we can't afford to be snobbish and hold out for special flavors of Coke Zero. In the words of Captain Reynolds, "that's a long wait for a train don't come."
